About the position

Rapid River Fish Hatchery is seeking to hire (1) Fisheries Biological Aide for a period not to exceed five months.

Rapid River Fish Hatchery is located in west central Idaho near the town of Riggins, Idaho along the Wild and Scenic designated section of Rapid River. The town of Riggins is located adjacent to the Salmon River, a.k.a. “The River of No Return”. The Seven Devils mountains and the Hells Canyon Wilderness are minutes from the facility. The hatchery produces 3.0 million spring chinook salmon annually for release into Rapid River, a tributary of the Little Salmon River. The hatchery is funded by the Idaho Power Company through a mitigation responsibility resulting from the Hells Canyon Settlement Agreement.

 

General Information
Work typically consists of a 40 hour work week with some weekend rotation or holiday work required. Some duties may require extended stays overnight in remote locations.

Housing is included with this position to include; water, power, internet, trash and washer/dryer. A four bedroom, two bathroom bunkhouse with full kitchen and living room is available for temporary staff.
Qualifications
Course work in a Natural Resource/Biological Science is strongly preferred but not mandatory. Previous fish hatchery experience a plus but not required. Candidates with course work will be given preference. Must be at least18 years of age.
Responsibilities
Perform routine fish husbandry duties; assist with trapping and
spawning operations; weigh fish feed and feed fish; clean tanks, raceways and incubators;
remove and enumerate daily fish and egg mortality; maintain facilities, grounds and equipment;
operate power tools, pressure washers and landscaping equipment; operate fish loading and
transport equipment, and stock fish; crowd and net fish; record biological data, data entry, and
maintain various records and forms; operate fish traps; provide hatchery tours; and/or observe
fish for abnormal behavior.
