The Idaho Department of Fish and Game is seeking a Biological Aide. This position will be located at our Hagerman State Fish Hatchery located in Hagerman, Idaho. This is a 5-month non-benefited temporary position and is expected to work for up to 40 hours per week. If applicable add: Housing is available for the employee only. No pets.

Supplemental Information:
Position requires ability to lift and carry up to 60+ pounds with occasional lifting and carrying up to 100 pounds for short distances; and work in extreme weather conditions. Operate motorized equipment including ATVs, tractors, landscaping equipment, and Pickup trucks. Evening, weekend, and holiday work may be required. Incumbents working at fish hatcheries work with toxic chemicals and around heavy dust, high voltage, loud noises, and slippery surfaces. Incumbents working on habitat projects may be working with herbicides and pesticides.
Responsibilities:
The incumbent must be able to perform routine fish rearing duties at a resident fish hatchery. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Weighing fish feed and feeding fish
- cleaning raceways and incubators
- removing and enumerating daily fish and egg mortality
- maintaining facilities, grounds, and equipment
- operating power tools, pressure washers and landscaping equipment
- operating fish loading and transport equipment, crowding and netting fish
- recording biological data, data entry, and maintaining various records and forms
- provide hatchery tours
- observe fish for abnormal behavior
- safe chemical use.
Minimum Qualifications Specialty: (These qualifications are required.)
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Possess a valid driver’s license
- Experience following oral and written instructions, policies, and procedures
- Some knowledge of biology, zoology, botany, conservation biology or closely related
- field
- Some knowledge of life history, anatomy, and ecology of various fish species
- Experience recording data
- Experience interacting with the public in a professional setting
- Experience operating tractors, trailers, and UTVs
- Some knowledge of animal husbandry
- Experience performing grounds or building maintenance
- Experience diagnosing and repairing minor mechanical problems
- Experience building and/or maintaining fencing
- Experience operating flood or sprinkler irrigation systems
- Experience operating chainsaws and other power tools
In addition to the minimum qualifications, the ideal candidate will be working towards a biological science degree and have an interest in hatchery programs. Additional consideration may be given at the time of the interview to candidates who have this experience.
