About the position

The Idaho Department of Fish and Game is seeking (4) Fishery Technicians to work on the High Mountain Lakes and Streams Fisheries Management Crew. These positions will be at our Clearwater Regional Office in Lewiston Idaho. These are temporary positions (3 months) and are expected to work up to 40 hours per week. Housing is available on a first-come basis upon request for the employees only. No pets.

General Information
Incumbents will be required to travel to remote locations for fish tagging, trapping, spawning, or sampling operations. These positions involve walking several miles over rugged terrain and along stream banks; standing and working in cold water for up to eight hours per shift; lifting and carrying equipment weighing up to 60 pounds and occasionally lifting and carrying up to 100 pounds for short distances; operate four-wheel drive and off-road vehicles in rugged terrain; working underwater using snorkel equipment; and working in extreme weather conditions.
Qualifications
• Some knowledge of the life history, anatomy, and ecology of various fish species.
• Experience: recording, summarizing, and analyzing scientific data; diagnosing and repairing minor mechanical problems.
• Employees to participate and to instruct in fishing activities.
• Valid driver's license.
Responsibilities
1. Data management.
Typical duties: count, measure, weigh, and tag fish; collect scale/otolith samples; prepare biological specimens and record information; mark and tag fish; record information from recovered tags; summarize and report on biological information collected; input, and retrieve data using personal computer.

2. Hiking, backpacking, and camping for extended periods in the Idaho backcountry to complete mountain lake and stream surveys. Surveys will include backpack electrofishing, eDNA sampling, snorkeling, angling, and gill-netting.

3. Field Crew Management.
Typical duties: Operate, maintain, and organize field equipment, sampling gear, purchasing, and crew assignments.
