Volunteer to support Idaho’s hunting and trapping heritage—become a hunter, bowhunter, or trapper education instructor!

Idaho Fish and Game’s Southeast Region will be hosting four New Instructor Orientation workshops throughout the region beginning the end of April. If you are a safe and responsible hunter or trapper, you are passionate about hunting and trapping ethics, or you want to share your knowledge and skills with youth and adults new to Idaho’s hunting and trapping traditions, then we are looking for you!

New Instructor Orientation classes are the first step in becoming a certified Hunter Education Program instructor. Here is where you can find a class this spring!

  • Saturday, April 26, Ranch Hand Trail Stop, 23200 US-30, Montpelier, ID 83254, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
  • Saturday, April 26, Preston Fire Station, 55 W 1st Street, Preston, ID 83263, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Wednesday, April 30, Idaho Fish and Game Regional Office, 1345 Barton Road, Pocatello, ID 83204, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
  • Saturday, May 3, Cedar Hills Gun Club, 702 N Center Road, Blackfoot, ID 83221 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

There is no cost to attend New Instructor Orientation and you need only to bring an appetite because we will be feeding you!

Those who attend will learn about hunter, bowhunter, and trapper education curriculum, classroom and class record management, the various courses that can be offered, instructor conduct, how to record volunteer time, and so much more!

To secure your seat at New Instructor Orientation, please RSVP by emailing Volunteer Services Coordinator Tessa Atwood at tessa.atwood@idfg.idaho.gov.

If you cannot attend one of these upcoming classes, but are still interested in becoming an instructor, please email to learn what other classes or training options are available.

Idaho’s volunteer instructors are a well-respected and dedicated corps of sportsmen and sportswomen who are the heart of our hunting, bowhunting, and trapper education programs. They offer an essential service that helps to secure the perpetuation of our rich hunting and trapping heritage. If you would like to join their ranks, we will see you at New Instructor Orientation this spring!
